Gun Safety

Be SMART

Everytown for Gun Safety launched the Be SMART campaign to take action to promote responsible gun ownership and reduce child gun deaths. The campaign focuses on education and awareness about child gun deaths and secure gun storage. Be SMART volunteers encourage parents and caretakers to “Be SMART” and take these five simple steps to help prevent shootings by children:

  • Secure

  • Model

  • Ask

  • Recognize

  • Tell

The Firearms Restraining Order

The Firearms Restraining Order Act provides a formal legal process to ask a court to issue a Firearms Restraining Order (or “FRO”) to temporarily limit an individual’s access to firearms, ammunition, and firearm parts when that person poses a significant danger to themselves or others. A Firearms Restraining Order is a civil court order that temporarily prohibits a person from possessing or buying firearms, ammunition, and firearm parts that could be assembled to make an operable firearm.
